Do you know what today is? It's our anniversary! (In our Tony! Toni! Toné! voices) Happy 12th anniversary to you and your husband! Your journey is a testament to resilience, faith, and the power of healing. Here’s a message incorporating your key points on healing and health equity, as well as promoting your upcoming retreat and initiatives: Today marks our 12th wedding anniversary, a milestone I am profoundly grateful for, especially considering the challenges we’ve faced. My husband’s journey of healing, following a massive heart attack and stroke on September 28, 2022, where he died twice and nearly a third time, has been nothing short of miraculous. This experience has deeply ingrained in us the belief that “God is” – truly, He is our healer. Healing has been our constant theme for nearly two years, and through this pain, God has elevated our platform to address health inequities in BIPOC communities here in Illinois. God has aligned my work in Restorative Justice and Restorative Practices to offer a unique perspective on the social determinants of health. As we prepare for our Purple Path Bi-Annual Healing Retreat, I invite everyone who feels led to join us for a transformative day filled with workshops and valuable resources aimed at fostering community healing. This retreat will provide a safe, welcoming environment where youth and families can engage in meaningful dialogue, learn from experienced facilitators, and access essential resources for healing and growth. The monetary contributions to register are in $25 increments, with any amount over $250 considered sponsorship, which includes many perks. All guests will receive a continental breakfast, lunch, gift bags filled with goodies, and access to all on-site resources during the retreat. In addition to focusing on community healing, we are emphasizing health equity this August, particularly maternal wellness. This focus is timely, given the passing of House Bill 5142 regarding pregnancy and postpartum care in Illinois. If you feel led to support this initiative, please complete and share our maternal wellness survey, which will help advance our research in collaboration with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois.
